The 2020 Land Rover Discovery – The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

2020 Land Rover Discovery

The UK market has always had a love/hate relationship with the Land Rover brand. However, the Land Rover remains a very capable off-roader with all the comforts of a luxury sedan. The company is also trying to improve the reliability of their vehicles, though it still remains to be proven. The 2020 Land Rover Discovery is true to form and has most of the features people love it for, with a few welcome additions. Let’s take a look at the good, bad, and ugly things about this model and see if it’s a buy or pass.

The Good

One of the best things about the Discovery is how versatile it is. It is one of the only models in its category that is truly as capable on rough terrain as it is on the road. It comes with standard four-wheel drive and has neat optional features such as All-Terrain Progress Control that makes driving on uneven surfaces easier.

The other thing that sets this vehicle apart is how luxurious the interior is. Land Rover has always been known for great interiors, but what makes the Discovery great is the number of options and top-quality materials. For instance, you can choose between multiple veneer materials from high gloss oak, satin-brushed aluminium, and natural oak. Heated seats are a standard option as well.

The Bad

One of the worst things about the Discovery is how much fuel it consumes. The car is rated at 21mpg in the city and 26mpg on the highway for the diesel model. The gas model is at 16mpg in the city, and 21 on the highway.

Don’t be fooled by the exterior’s size either. While it may look like a comfortable 3-row seater, the leg space in the third row is minuscule at only 33.5 inches. The company also seems to have issues with the infotainment system, which was a lot slower than on many comparable models. The engine’s power is also a let-down with the most powerful option at around 340hp. This can be a bit disappointing when considering that most models in its category have engines well beyond 400hp.

The Ugly

It’s no secret that Land Rovers can be unreliable, and it is still too early to tell if this model will be any different. This doesn’t only mean that you’ll have to pay more for maintenance, but you may also have trouble finding good quotes for insurance.

The good news, however, is that there are plenty of resources that will allow you to compare land rover insurance quotes fast, like QuoteZone. They will allow you to compare quotes from over 100 insurance providers in a matter of minutes. All you have to do is fill in one form, submit, and you’ll be able to compare and get your coverage online or by phone.

The Land Rover Discovery is the perfect combination of ruggedness and luxury. It’s also one of the most comfortable 4X4s in its category. Time will tell if they’ll be able to shake off their reputation and build a durable vehicle.
