Look better Now: Men’s Best Body Hair Trimmers

With the modern man being more into grooming and general upkeep than in years gone, it is no surprise that we have seen the male grooming market explode in all directions; from creams, lotions and specially formulated shampoos to electronics like electric razors, nose hair trimmers and body hair trimmers.

We as men, can often be quite hairy, some more than others. If you are one of hairier beasts out there, we are talking chest, arms, back, legs, more or less everywhere, it is time for you to invest in a body hair trimmer.

You may be in love with your chest rug, but women aren’t. Well….most women. These days a man must be groomed to the extent where he looks rugged yet looked after, picture Daniel Craig or Joe Manganiello (Sofia Vergara’s husband).

These blokes manage their fluff and so should you. Gone are the times when the unkempt mess of a furry back were acceptable. We have transitioned into a new age, an age where it is necessary to spend some time and money to improve the way you look.

Body hair trimmers for men

Gone are the times when the unkempt mess of a furry back were acceptable...

I’m not suggesting that we compete with women for bathroom space or time. That would be a battle we would lose every day of the week. Instead what I am suggesting is efficiency. Choosing a product which works to make your grooming routine as quick and painless as possible.

A body hair trimmer is the first rung on the ladder to grooming efficiency. The problem is; there are so many shavers, trimmers, groomers all in different styles, settings and functions, it’s hard to know which one to pick. If you are overwhelmed by the different options out there, here are some things to look for in a good body hair trimmer.

How to Look for a Proper Trimmer

  • Firstly, you have to think about the different areas you are going to shave. If you are planning on shaving your back, chest and your nether regions, you can’t just opt for a normal trimmer. You need different functions for the different areas, due their relative sensitivity. Secondly, you need to consider quality.
  • The quality of the blades and the battery are the most important aspects of this consideration; budget blades lead to snagging and therefore pain, whereas a weak battery will mean you could be halfway through your deforestation and suddenly need to wait for an hour to continue.
  • Finally, the price. This is the factor which puts most people off, with some hair trimmers reaching over $100. Before you buy, you need to decide how often you are going to use one and what sort of experience you are looking for.

Now you have some criteria to think about, let’s get onto the best body hair trimmers in the game. Here are our:

Top 5 Best Body Hair Trimmers

For Man who Wants a Closer Shave: Philips Norelco Philips Series 5000 Body Groomer Plus ($56)

                        Philips Norelco Philips Series 5000

You are going to see a few Philips on this list; they are undoubtedly the top brand in terms of choices and the quality of these choices.

The Philips Norelco series is testament to this with a few different models, all of which are brilliant and unique in their own way. This particular trimmer, the BG2036/32 (what an inventive name) is reasonably expensive, but for good reason.

It is 100% waterproof, meaning you can wash the hairs off under the tap and save yourself some time. This body groomer includes hair pre-trimmers, meaning you can fight the fuzz efficiently before you get down to the closer shave stuff.

As with most of the Philips Norelco range, you get hypoallergenic foil cutter and trimmer, meaning that the more sensitive-skinned men out there can trim without fear of rashes or irritation. This little benefit is a god-send if you do suffer from sensitive skin.

The long handle and curved design make for an ergonomic use, getting you in those hard to reach places which most trimmers simply fail to do. When you buy this product you also get a 3, 5 and 7 mm combs to help with the trimming process.

These can be surprisingly useful if you are hairier than most other men. Philips may have some dull names for their products, but they make up for it in quality and functionality.

This particular model is more suited to the fluffier man, the powerful battery and sharp blades ensure that even most rug-like bloke can come out smooth.

The biggest issue with this product is that unless you’re really hairy you might as well go for a more precise option. It is a little heavy duty.

For A Precison Trim:Remington PG525 Lithium Head to Toe Body Groomer, Black by Remington Products ($85)

 Remington PG525

Another wonderfully named product, from Remington. As the name suggests it is a full body groomer, meaning that you can use it on your face if you were so inclined (as long as you didn’t just shave your party zone).

This product is again quite expensive, coming in at over 80 dollars, but yet again, it does seem to be worth it. This piece from Remington is often used as a travel trimmer, due to its sleek and slender design combined with how light it is.

The difference between this compact trimmer and most others on this list is that it is more an outright trimer than the shaver/trimmer combo. The head to toe body groomer will give a thick haired man a good go, but in the end it won’t hair the power or size to fight large amounts of hair.

Instead, this body hair trimmer is ideal for maintenance work; keeping your recently felled forest in check, stopping it from growing too much. This product is also ideal for those of you who aren’t that hairy , but want to reduce how hairy you are all the same.

I feel I must add a note of caution for this product; if you want to trim your downstairs, perhaps find a different product, the interchangeable heads attachment will not stop the blades from their aggressive buzzing and potential to hurt you.

On the other hand, if you just want to trim your face and body, for an overall well-kempt look, this is the trimmer for you. The biggest con for this product is that the price is high for what you get.

For the Man Trying to Save Some Money: Gillette Fusion ProGlide Styler 3-in-1 (Razor, Beard Trimmer, Edging Blade) ($20)

                         Gillette Fusion ProGlide Styler 3-in-1

This slender device is ideal if you want to shave with a razor as well as trim other areas with an electric trimmer. The product effortlessly treads the line between razor and trimmer by using Gillette’s tried and tested razor technology alongside Braun’s trimmer tech. The combination of the two means that for the surprisingly low price of $20 you get a razor and a trimmer.

The ProGlide is a 3-in-1 because is a razor, trimmer and edger. The razor shaves your skin more smoothly and with less irritation than most others due to its powerblades, which are renowned for their close shave.

The trimmer works with your body, moving and adapting to fit the shape of each area it trims. This is a luxury among products this cheap, with most of them being rigid, resulting missed areas and an uneven trim.

The trimmer works best with slightly longer hairs, especially when wet and washed, which leaves the hairs more supple for cutting.

Finally the edging blade on the back of the product allows greater precision of the areas which have already been trimmed and shaved. If you really like to take some time to neaten up the edges of your body or facial hair, give this product a go.

With such a low price, there are always going to be some pitfalls. The battery life of the ProGlide is great, lasting around a month, but it is powered by AA batteries, meaning you will have to keep replacing the batteries as you go. This is obviously a problem for us men.

We will undoubtedly forget to purchase replacements for the trimmer, meaning one day we’ll go to trim some unruly hairs only to find it’s out of juice. The biggest con with this little number is that it is pretty low quality and will not last long.

Best For an All Round Shaver:Philips Series 7000 Body Groomer Pro TT2040/32 to Trim and Shave Body Hair ($70)

Philips Series 7000 Body Groomer Pro

This trimmer is a standout in the trimmer market, its 3D pivoting head allows a smooth and consistent shave across all contours of the body.

The head swivels and moves to the shape of your body, regardless of how you are shaped. Whether you’re trimming the nooks and crannies of your “region” or simply want to remove the hair on your back, this body hair groomer has you covered.

The trimmer combs the hairs as it cuts it to prevent your skin from being scratched and damaged. On top of this it works on five blade length settings (1/8 of an inch o 11/25 of inch), meaning you can get your desired look without having to jump between multiple trimmers and razors.

The Philips 7000 is also water resistant, meaning if you like to shave in the shower, you are perfectly permitted to. The all-in-one trimmer is perfect for someone who likes to do a bit of everything and isn’t overly hairy. The price tag is high, but certainly worth it given all you get.

One of the drawbacks of this trimmer is its battery life. While 50 minutes seems a lot, you end up having to charge it a lot more than you would think. As well the 50 minute battery life, it takes an hour to fully recharge the battery, meaning you may have to wait around a lot before you can trim those whiskers.

The benefits of this body groomer far outweigh the negatives. So if you are willing to put up the cash, and wait for an hour to fully charge the device, then you can enjoy the close shaved or effective trims till your hearts content. One con to be wary of is the price, $70 it’s a lot for a razor.

For the Extra Hairy Man: Mangroomer Do-It-Yourself Electric Back Hair Shaver ($40)

Mangroomer Do-It-Yourself Electric Back Hair Shaver

Although this isn’t a full body groomer, I believe it deserves a mention. So many of our extra hairy kinsmen find it difficult to find a product which can rid them of their back hair, so for those of you who it applies to I give you the Mangroomer DIY back shaver.

This one is obviously more of a specialty piece and not for everyone. Mangroomer (finally a good name) have produced the angled and extendable body groomer to help you reach those difficult to get back hairs.

Enter your text here...

The handle is fully extendable and locking meaning it won’t wobble about as you remove your back-forest.

As well as that the people at Mangroomer used their heads and decided to add a 1.5 inch blade, specifically designed to remove as much hair as possible as fast as possible. The compact flick knife look ensures that it can be used on your travels, packed away easily when you’re done with it. The angled head of the device mean it is easily pulled upwards for maximum effectiveness.

There are some issues with the product, which isn’t difficult to believe from looking at it. One such problem is that the quality is somewhat lacking; the locking system can be increasingly flimsy and the shaver isn’t the best.

It provides the solution to a problem, but it is certainly not an elegant solution. The technique is difficult to master and can be tricky to do for a while. This issue is compounded by the scratchiness of the product; the constant changing of pressure (due the awkwardness of use) means you end up marking your back with the shaver.
