Tips For Planning A Golf Holiday In Spain Or Portugal

Golf Holiday In Spain

Find The Best Price On Golf Holidays

Golf is popular throughout much of Spain, including the area along the Costa del Sol and the Algarve like Salgados golf course. With so many beautiful places to play, finding a good deal is easier than you might think. When planning your trip, compare prices on rental cars for golfers. Vehicles are available in different price ranges, which means that you should be able to find transportation that fits within your budget. Most of these rental cars can be picked up and dropped off at any large airport in Spain.

Golf Handicap Certificates

When golfing in Spain, you may be required to provide a certificate showing your handicap. Obtaining one of these certificates is usually just a matter of contacting the secretary of your club before you head out on your trip. Depending on the course, men are usually allowed a handicap of up to 28 while women are allowed up to 36.

Find Out When The Course Undergoes Maintenance

Immediately after maintenance has been completed on a golf course, the greens may not be as playable as you would like. To avoid any problems, consider booking your holiday a minimum of seven days after any scheduled maintenance. You can contact whichever golf course you choose on the Costa del Sol ahead of time to find out their maintenance routine so that you can plan your trip accordingly.

Choose Your Tee Time Carefully

During the peak of tourist season, afternoons are generally the slowest time on the golf course. Choosing a tee time during this period can help keep you from feeling too rushed by other players. Reach out to us ahead of time to discuss available tee times before planning your trip. For the most part, you can book a tee time up until 5 PM on an 18-hole course during the summer.

Consider Any Extra Services Or Accessories

If you need to rent shoes, a trolley, or clubs, make sure to reserve them well in advance. Generally, it is best to bring your own golf shoes if you can. Shoes that you rent may not fit properly, which could result in sore spots or blisters.

Dress Appropriately

Even though it may seem obvious, it is important to wear the right type of clothing when golfing. A surprising number of players show up in inappropriate clothing. Spanish golf courses have well-defined rules regarding the types of clothing you can wear. For the most part, you will need to wear a shirt with a collar, golf pants, and shoes that are made specifically for golfing that have plastic spikes. If you don’t wear appropriate clothing, you may be asked to buy some at the pro shop before being allowed to play on the course.

Make Sure There Are No Scheduled Competitions

When planning your trip, verify that there are no competitions scheduled on your preferred course during the time that you plan to be there. Otherwise, you may not be able to play.

Rules Regarding Blue Flag Buggies

Every golf club is different when it comes to their rules surrounding buggies. Some allow buggies on the fairway all summer long. With others, the temperature has to be above 90° before they are allowed. Some clubs never allow buggies, no matter how hot it gets. Golfers who have health issues, however, may be able to request a blue flag for their buggy. With one of these flags, you can typically take your buggy onto the fairway, even if other players can’t. To improve your chances of getting approved for a blue flag, bring a letter from your doctor describing your health condition. If you need more information, reach out to us today. We can verify that the course you are interested in will be willing to work with you to find a solution.

Rules Regarding Golf Shoes

Most golf courses no longer allow metal spikes since they cause a lot of damage. Generally, it is best to choose golf shoes without spikes to avoid any problems.
