There’s no value that can quantify the safety of your body, much more your head! “My uncle suffered a traumatic brain injury while riding a bike seven years ago,” Livingston said. “After witnessing his recovery, I know that enduring the stares and jeers is so much better than going through what he did, especially considering the way some people ride their bikes on campus.” That’s why Smith created another top of the line helmet. Introducing.., The Smith Camber Helmet.
Our friends over at Smith sent us a couple of samples of the Camber helmet to pick our head up for an honest review, and here’s what we think.
Design and Technology
The Smith Camber Helmet contains a lot of bells and whistles when it comes to design and comfort. Its Ultra-Light Mold Construction makes it extremely light weight without sacrificing the durability and style integrity of the helmet. Wearing it for the first time, you’ll notice that it fits comfortably snug at the back of your neck thanks to their patented Smith x Boa fit system. It’s adjustable to comfortably fit your head size.
The X static performance lining also feels sterile and comfortable on our forehead and on the side of our cheeks. It’s highly absorbent and doesn’t retain moisture to keep it smelling fresh, even on sunny solstice adventures.
The Camber also sports a Snap-fit SL2 earpads that will warm your ears during winter outdoor activities.
The Smith Camber comes with two options: with or without MIPS (Multi Impact Protection System), a slip-plane tech inside the helmet. MIPS is specifically designed to absorb harsh and direct impact more efficiently. Combining it with the helmet’s overall construction, it will virtually absorb direct forces better with a little bit of a small rotational give to the outer shell from the liner.

What’s more with Smith Helmets?
Expanding its collection of award-winning headwear for the most demanding rider, Smith launches the new all-mountain Session bike helmet focused on the ideal balance of protection, comfort, style, performance, ventilation, and eyewear integration. Comprised of proven lightweight in-mold Aerocore™ construction with an integrated skeletal structure, the Session utilizes Koroyd® technology in strategic, zonal impact areas to offer safeguarded coverage for riders to charge harder with confidence.
Smith helmets are created to efficiently absorb direct impacts, and all colorways of the Session include a multi-directional impact protection system (MIPS®) lining that reduces rotational forces that the brain is exposed to during oblique impacts to the head. When combined with MIPS, the helmet liner is separated from the head by a low-friction slip plane that allows the head to slide during impact and may reduce instances of traumatic brain injuries.
The inclusion of massive air ports across the top of the full-featured helmet provide maximum ventilation for long climbs and warm weather, and combine with Smith’s AirEvac ventilation system of internal air channels to increase airflow through the helmet, especially when worn with Smith MTB goggles and performance eyewear. The inner lining, featuring X-Static with Reactive Cooling Performance, offers anti-microbial properties to help absorb perspiration while riding.
For ultimate eyewear integration, the Session features additional channels on the front of the helmet for easy sunglass storage, and the three-position visor rotates upward to fit various goggle positions. The addition of the VaporFit™ adjustable fit system and ultra-light single layer webbing allows increased comfort. MSRP $160. Available at www.smithoptics.com
