What You Need to Know Before Purchasing a Wedding Suit

Your wedding day will likely be one of the most memorable days of your life, but you don’t want it to be memorable for the wrong reasons, like an ill-fitting suit or a wardrobe malfunction.

Wedding Suit

While your significant other is out looking around for the perfect outfit for your special day, you can be doing the same. Here are a few helpful tips to guide you through the wedding suit shopping process.

Choose a Tuxedo or Suit

One of the first choices to make when shopping for men’s formal wear for your wedding is whether you’d like to wear a tuxedo or a suit. Contrary to popular belief, there are some differences between the two.

Generally, tuxedos have a bow tie, a satin lapel and buttons, no belt loops, and a satin stripe. Suits have ties, a lapel made of the same material as the suit, no stripes, and belt loops included. Most formal shoes will work with both tuxedos and suits, and either option will be suitable for a wedding.

Consider the Seasons

For an inside wedding with heating and cooling, the seasons may not play an integral part in the formalwear you choose for your big day. Although, comfort is everything, and you may not always be inside for your entire wedding ceremony and reception.

Consider the season when you’re trying on new suits and tuxedos. Light wool, cotton, and silk blends may be lightweight and breathable for summer and spring weddings. In winter, heavier fabrics like wool and wool blends in three-piece suits may be worth your consideration.

Buy or Rent

When you’re sticking to a budget for your wedding, you may consider hiring your suit rather than buying it. However, sometimes, the hire fee compared to the price of a new high-quality suit you can wear more than once isn’t that much different. A suit you purchase for a wedding can also be put to good use at other events, such as funerals and other people’s weddings.

Decide on the Cut

Even those who have never purchased a suit before will know that you can buy various styles. Some cuts will look flattering on you, and some won’t, so do your research and talk to men’s formalwear experts to understand which suit cut will be right for you.

Classic fit suits have roomy waists and chests, are broader in the shoulder area and have a straight leg opening. Slim fit suits generally hug your body more, with fitted shoulders and a slim fit through the chest and thighs.

A modern fit may also capture your attention, as this cut has a fitted chest, high armholes, a narrow opening around the ankle to highlight your footwear, and tapering from the hips to the thighs.

Pick a Color

One of the last decisions you need to make relates to color. Talk to your significant other about the wedding theme so that you can match your suit, shirt, and tie, to your spouse and wedding venue décor. Black and navy are among the most popular options, but you can also add pops of color with your shirt and tie.

Purchasing a wedding suit can be an overwhelming experience when you want it to be perfect for your big day. Take note of these tips above, and you may be able to identify your ideal outfit in no time at all.
